Treat Your Kid Right, Help Develop Children's Self Esteem
Christopher Wen

Defined Tag:

Your children's self esteem is already being developed even at a very young age. The foundation is already being set and it's your responsibility to make it solid and unshakeable.  As young babies crying and needing attention, depriving them of the love and nurturing they need would give them a sense of being unwanted. Doing otherwise would make them feel loved and secure.

Children's self esteem lies more in knowing that they can fit into a group. That they are being accepted and being able to properly function with the unit. When they are able to do so, they are able to feel good about themselves and they grow more confident.

What children need to develop their self esteem is not being showered with excessive praises. They can see through them and they may feel that they are only good at home. They can become sensitive to the evaluation of not only their parents, but also to their peers and mentors.

By helping them with what needs to be done and not doing it entirely for them, you teach your kids that they are capable of doing the activity. Then, appreciate their work, showing that you are interested in their own interests makes them feel adequate, simply praising their work and turning your back at it would seem that what they did was petty.

Also, by helping your child cope with his or her failures rather than just their successes, you will help him or her strengthen their self esteem when they need it the most.
